Consuelo Cavaniglia
Consuelo Cavaniglia is an interdisciplinary artist, independent curator and educator currently based on the unceded lands of the Gadigal people (Sydney). She is Associate Lecturer at UNSW Art, Design & Architecture and is Co-Founder and Co-Director of experimental art space sydenham international.
Living for many years in Boorloo (Perth), Consuelo is interested in practices that operate outside of main centres. She is committed to supporting and developing artist communities and has established critical discussion groups, curator visit programs and was Co-Founder and Director of CUT N POLISH artist car boot sale, hosted by Carriageworks in 2022 and 2023. In 2022 she established the art space sydenham international with Brendan Van Hek as a site for experimentation, exchange, and to support for artists at all stages of practice with a focus on restaging and representing existing works and on intergenerational conversations. She has worked in varied roles within the arts across the last 18 years including exhibitions coordinator, art consultant and art installer.
Cavaniglia has exhibited widely nationally, her most recent exhibition a major solo show at Chau Chak Wing Museum that extended through the building responding to the architecture, the collection and the museum community of staff. In 2016, she was the recipient of the Create NSW Visual Art Fellowship (Emerging), the recipient of the inaugural Macfarlane Commission at ACCA in 2018 and the inaugural River Capital Commission at Gertrude Contemporary in 2019.
